Rust Update 23-2-2017
It’s Thursday, time for a new Rust Update! This week the Facepunch Team rocked the stage with heavy armor, guest codes and some tweaks and improvements.
No wipe will be done for another week!
Heavy Armor
Oh yeah. New heavy helmet, jacket and pants are in.
Caveman sash: big gamechanger
You can now tell who has truly just washed up on the beach versus those motherfuckers running around with no clothes, yelling “I’m friendly, I’m friendly!” only to have them ram a spear down your gullet the second your guard is down.
The caveman sash. This new article of clothing is involuntarily added to naked Newman’s once they touch a ‘potentially hostile’ item (basically any weapon or tool). Fresh spawns, provided they haven’t laid hands on anything, will remain naked in the eyes of every other player. If they, however, grab a spear, bow, gun, etc, they will be branded with this new sash.
Could be good, could be bad. We should see how this goes.
Guest codes
A new option for base access is having an option to setup guest codes for your locks. They allow you to set a second code which give people access to the door. It restricts guests ability to lock/unlock, remove the lock or change the codes. These codes can only be managed by people with masterkey access.
Vending machines
Some improvements were made this week to vending machines. They are now twice as strong (1000HP as opposed to 500) and they also show the number of items per sell order on the bottom right of the front screen. Vending machines are also able to broadcast their locations. This setting can be toggled by holding ‘E’ but will be on by default for all newly placed vending machines. Existing vending machines will not broadcast their location. Using a paper map, players will be able to see icons (green circles with shopping carts) across the entire seed for all vending machines set to broadcast.
Auto Turrets
Changes were made to the functions of Auto Turrets, especially in peacekeeper mode. They now have laser beams attached to their heads and rocks are not considered hostile anymore. Water bottles, bota bags and buckets are also not longer considered hostile. Also dead players are no longer considered hostile after they respawn and run back.
Any damage dealt marks you as hostile to sentry turrets.
Other changes
- Not only vending machines broadcast their location, also monuments are now labeled clearly on every paper map
- Some changes to world models were made: sewing kits are larger and gun powder is now in a sack, making them easier to see
- Beds can be made public and slept in by others
- Overall graphics improvements are made, but not big enough to notice them
The update will be pushed at approximately 22:00 CET tonight. It will not wipe the servers.
