Wipe incoming! Oh and the weekly update… please sit (or drive)!

Drivable cars! In addition to the ‘sitting’ part of the chairs in Rust, admins are able to spawn in vehicles. Work is still in progress, that’s why it’s not part of vanilla gameplay yet. The cars will likely be part of gameplay, just not this week.

It’s probably going to work like this:
You’ll find a broken down car at a radtown, but it will be missing many components to get it running again, including perhaps some kind of engine part component that has a server limited finite population. That is, say, 15 are active in-game at any given time.

Driving the vehicle will use a lot of fuel, perhaps not even low grade fuel. It’ll have a lot of storage, and multiple players can mount it. I’ll make sure the driver cannot use all weapons while driving. Either nothing, or maybe just pistols.

As the vehicle drives, it will constantly be calculating a ‘break’ probability based on distance traveled. When the vehicle breaks, its max speed will slow and you will need to repair it with some components. The more you force it to drive, the more broken it gets, and it’ll require more and more to keep going so constant maintenence would be best. Driving off a designated road will drastically increase the breaking chance, this way people will need to stick to roads unless they drive at a crawl.

Finally, we can also sit in our chairs. Last weeks update should’ve give this to us already, but some problems were added. One of them were some exploits by which people would be able to sit in the chair even if they were outside behind a barred window or something. Very welcome for raiding purpose, but very not welcome for people defending a base. Roleplay people, take it away!

And?
Well, some visual updates have been done to the grass. Much of the grass is shorter and a bit more sparsely laid out. You’ll also see a new EAC screen along with updates to the EAC SDK hopefully fixing some more Steam connect/auth issues. The updates player models won’t make it in this week yet…

And:
– Dropped maps now despawn in 30 seconds (exploit fix)
– Fixed thrown weapons and arrows disappearing on impact when hitting entities
– Flashlight attachment no longer shows gun shadows all over the place
– Eating raw fish no longer makes the player puke
– Added Shadow Quality slider to Graphics menu
– Added graphics.shadowquality convar; 0 = low / hard, 1 = med / soft, 2 = high / soft+penumbra
– Progress on new snow biome (likely coming in October)
