Kingsday in NL, but a normal Thursday for Rust..
Nobody will be at home today, cause the people in NL are partying for the King’s birthday, but for Rust it’s just a normal Thursday.
Work has been done on the animal AI, vending machines, the cheater reports, death screen names and various other optimizations. Let’s get into it.
Animal AI
Improvements on the animal AI are going the right way. The navmesh generates a lot faster, which makes the servers startup a lot faster. During the generation, the CPU spikes to 100%, during 5-10 minutes, which can cause problems if you host Rust on a server with some other services (which we don’t recommend doing).
You can go tactical animal hunting! The sights of animals have been altered, allowing you to sneak up on them from behind without them noticing. Animals now properly run out of stamina, and will flee until recharged. Also, wolves and bears are more aggressive while boars and stags only attack now if you get too close (then they’ll flee). Chicken damage has been reduced as well.
Vending machines
If you own a vending machine, you can now give it a name. Broadcast the machine and the name will popup on the internal Rust map (made with paper). On a modded server, no-one even uses that, so we’ll wait for the LustyMap plugin author to add this into the plugin.
F7 cheater reports
Reporting cheaters is a lot easier now. Your entire friends list will be visible to choose a person from. Your most recent killer will be on the top position.
Death screen
Andre has made it so the name which shows up on the deathscreen is the player’s actual name on Steam. This will hopefully prevent namespoofing and other general fuckery.
Muzzle Brake
The Muzzle Brake received some nerfs. Velocity is reduced to 80%, distance is now 75% and aimcone is now much larger.
Various optimizations
Other optimizations are for example entity pooling. It has been added to animals and some other deployables. Pooling creates less performance overhead when things are being created or destroyed. This could give some errors or warnings for server owners in their console, but this should just work out of the box.
Furthermore, some other fixes have been done on features that were implemented last week, like the limitations of your view when you’re wearing a heavy armor helmet. Also the ‘Hud’ setting will be ignored for the blackout overlays on scopes, helmet and binoculars.
And..
– New skins are added to the item store
– Fixed camera clipping issues with view model crossbow animations
– Fixed a couple errors with models and ragdolls introduced last week
– Tweaks to sound distances and some mixes
Tonights update will not do a wipe, that will be next week. See you later!
